SURRENDER

Toowoomba Regional Gallery, QLD
2015

Surrender, recent paintings. Fantastical themes, desperate figures, bold brushstrokes, bright colours and humour become the channel for complete surrender onto canvas.

Cachinero’s latest paintings have an ambiguous narrative that leaves the viewer asking a lot of questions about the narrative. As the title suggests, Surrender has a feeling of complete abandon and Cachinero manages to surrender raw emotion onto her paintings. There is a strong theme of motherhood running throughout the work but it’s different to the mother-and-child paintings we’ve come to know. This work shows a struggle with motherhood and speaks to the more complex issues that surround the timeless struggle of being a mother and a painter.
